Linda’s story: an emotional testimony of egg donation
This is how it all started
Her story begins with a difficult diagnosis, as she was diagnosed with a blocked fallopian tube, which directly affected her fertility. After undergoing surgery to remove them, Linda and her husband began to explore the possibilities of starting a family. Given their situation, they chose to learn about assisted reproduction treatments.
When a couple decides to undergo fertility treatment, many doubts arise. The main was the choice of clinic where the entire process will be carried out.
Linda, of British origin, and her Spanish husband tried to carry out the treatment through the Spanish public health system and the NHS in the United Kingdom. In neither country was it possible due to her age, so they began to consider the possibility of going to a private fertility clinic. Linda has lived in Spain for seven years and considers it her home, so they started the treatments here.
Their family doctor recommended they go to Clinica Tambre.
Linda says that they felt at home when she and her partner entered Clinica Tambre. The medical team explained all their options, resolved all their doubts, and gave them all the time they needed. “We were very impressed by the warm and complete welcome,” she says. In addition, all the information was given in Spanish and English. Breaking down language barriers and making understanding something as important as starting a family easier.
A difficult case but with a happy ending
In this way, the couple began their journey towards parenthood by our side, an experience that, like a roller coaster, had moments of joy and difficulty.
They can’t find the right words to thank the work of Dr Esteban and Dr Samira Felisberto, who were fully involved. With their understanding and professionalism, I accompanied them and made them feel good even in the most difficult moments. Linda says that what she had with them was more than a doctor-patient relationship, considering them almost two more family members. “It was when we needed help the most that we received the most support,” she says in her testimony.
Initial Medical Assessment
During her first visits to the centre, the medical team studied her case thoroughly, performing all the necessary tests. Despite knowing the case’s complexity, they initially tried to achieve gestation using her eggs, but unfortunately, it was unsuccessful. It was a difficult reality for her and her partner, but they were unwilling to give up their dream of becoming parents. It was at that moment that her doctors advised her to try again, but this time with donor eggs.
Logically, future parents had doubts or fears about the egg donation treatment. Understanding that they had to resort to egg donation was complicated, especially for Linda. She was worried that her baby would not have her genes and, therefore, half Spanish and half English origins.
Emotional Support at Clinica Tambre
In a delicate situation like this, patients need to feel understood. Every assisted reproduction professional understands the meaning of the emotional factor. For this reason, at Clinica Tambre, we have a Psychology Unit led by Dr. Diego Aguilar, who supports all patients who need it.
As an additional clinic member, she knows each case intimately and constantly communicates with the other medical team members. Linda appreciated that at Clinica Tambre, psychological care is internal and included in the treatment. She knew the psychologist was there for her and understood what was happening.
Having faced all her fears and realised that egg donation was the key to achieving her goal, Linda realised that being a mother was more important than the circumstances of the treatment. She concluded that what is important is the care and love that these children receive as they grow. She now says with conviction: “Genes are not what makes a child happy”.
This is how Linda feels now.
Carrying her little one for nine months was enough for her, and she couldn’t consider herself luckier that another woman helped her have a child. The law doesn’t allow recipient mothers and donors to meet in Spain. However, Linda says that if that were to happen for utopia’s sake, she would hug her. “She doesn’t know how happy she made me”, she explains with emotion.
And so David was born, a beautiful baby boy with an English mother, a Spanish father and an Italian name. For Linda, motherhood is something fabulous. It is a learning journey in which she feels lucky to see her son smile daily. “Being a mother is a wonderful experience, a wonderful feeling, even when she cries!” she confesses, laughing.
Now, when she looks back and sees everything she has had to go through, Linda can’t help but send a little message to all those who are about to start assisted reproduction treatment. This mother recommends not to wait to start the treatment. Even though it is a long process, it is worth it. She also recommends that the clinic you choose, besides being renowned and experienced, must give you confidence and make you feel safe. They are considering expanding their family shortly and will return to Clinica Tambre.
This is how we met David.
The last time Linda walked through the doors of the Tambre Clinic was a few days ago with her baby in her arms. She met the two doctors again, and everyone warmly welcomed her. She realised she was excited because she inevitably saw the whole experience she had lived before her eyes and realised her dream.
