Q: First, how does the virus spread?
- A: The infection is transmitted by skin, skin with mucosa, or mucosa with mucosa contact. It can also be spread through direct contact with the secretions or body fluids of an infected person. However, it most commonly spreads through sexual intercourse, whether it be oral, anal, or other forms. Be very careful even when using protection. Even with condoms, there is still a large risk of this infection being spread between partners.
Q:What is the total number of types that have been identified?
- A: To date, more than 120 strains have been identified. However, these are divided into two categories: high-risk strains and low-risk one. Thankfully, with our DNA exam for men and women, you can quite easily see find out which type you have.
Q: Why are they even called “high-risk strains?”
- A: The reference relates to the development of genital cancer. Certain types are more dangerous than others. The types 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, and 68 are classified as high-risk strains.
Q: Why are some of them called “low-risk strains”?
- A: Warts are linked to low-risk strains. The recommended treatment for these warts is excision or local therapy to “destroy” them. The indication for treatment and tests is determined by your own healthcare provider.

Q: What should I do about positive results?
- A: While there is no treatment for this infection, there is a vaccine that can protect against it.

- A: The current evidence from studies show that natural immunity is not enough, which means reinfection can happen between couples.
Q: Would I still catch it if I only had sex with one person?
- A: This infection does not show a history of sleeping with many others, being unfaithful, or having multiple partners, as it can be contracted during the first intercourse, whether it be through penetrative sex, oral sex, touching, or sharing sex toys.

Accuracy
The accuracy of our HPV diagnostic is defined as the combination of sensitivity and specificity variables. Sensitivity is the ability to confirm positive results; specificity eliminates negative results. Also, all our results are validated with high accuracy (up to 98.5%).
Variables
Accuracy can be affected by various factors that our lab cannot control. Infection intensity, patient health, and sample quality, dependent on adherence to “home” procedures, can all limit the results. Although our products are extremely sensitive, a poor-quality swab makes it harder to detect the presence of infection, as fewer viral particles will be present. So, please carefully consider the information sheet accompanying your sample collection kit to ensure a high-quality sample is taken.
Detection
The standard PCR detection method is designed to accurately detect the presence of Human papilloma virus in the sample. A positive result will distinguish Type-16 and 18 from the others listed above. The standard process detects the presence of the listed types but cannot provide specific types. Furthermore, it uses a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) amplifying method to detect the presence of the pathogen.

Any diagnosis should be discussed with your healthcare provider. And any results from our medical diagnostics laboratory are intended to be viewed by healthcare professionals. However, this can be done with a patient’s medical history, lifestyle, and other factors that may influence results, which should be shared with your GP when discussing these results.
Positive result
A positive result suggests the presence of viral particles in the sample during examination. So, upon receiving positive results, you should contact your healthcare provider for treatment. You can also gain a prescription through our website. Also, it is possible that the virus does not present symptoms of the disease, but you may still be infectious to others. However, due to proven links between the virus and cancers, you must discuss the results with your GP.
Negative result.
While this can provide reassurance, it is important to understand its significance. This means the process did not detect the presence of infection during sampling. Results should still be discussed with a healthcare provider, considering lifestyle and sexual history. The result includes 21 variants that are considered “High-risk” types due to their association with CC. Still, it cannot detect if you are positive for one of the other 200+ variants.

“I felt very anxious and upset upon learning that abnormal cells were found and that I tested positive for HPV. When I got these results, I found little information online. The DNA results worried me. I have been with my partner for 6 years. And I had the vaccine at school over 10 years ago. I believe my school year was one of the first years (if not the first) to receive the vaccine.
I think there was a lot of misinformation given to myself and my peers at that age. We were given the impression that the jab prevents you from getting it. Which could potentially lead to cervical cancer, and perhaps (naively) many of us believed this to be the case.
I now understand that this is not the case
I felt confused when my letter confirmed that I had HPV. So, I started researching and found that it is very common and nothing to worry about, but I know that I am not the only one who was confused. Also, I had various girls my age reach out to me after I shared my story, surrounding my abnormal cells and the virus. They had the same confused questions like,
“I thought the jab at school prevented us from this?” and “I’m positive too, do you think that may be due to us having the vaccines when we were younger and its still being in our bodies?”
We want to see
Greater education about it from vaccination age with its inclusion in PSHE, and/or science lessons. This will support the provision of informed consent, help tackle stigma from an early age and encourage cross-generational conversation about cervical health.
A diagnosis can lead to all sorts of emotions. Our research showed that over seven in ten felt anxious about it, and almost half felt ashamed. A diagnosis often comes at a time which is already stressful, for example dealing with treatment for cell changes and fears about cancer.

You did a good job with the results but it took a while for the kit to arrive. This is why I am not 100% happy

The kit received it’s very discreet indeed! I had a few questions, but Cidalia was very helpful! Thank you again! I would also recommend the more expensive version of this test as if you’re positive you will know what type of HPV you have, so it’s worth the price! Somewhere else, you pay more and they don’t tell you what kind of HPV you have!
